Tavi & Friends ... working together to help special
needs animals
Tavi was my fearless little cat, named after Kipling's
indomitable mongoose, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Throughout my years of rescuing stray cats and dogs, while she was still with me,
Tavi was by my side helping to rehabilitate and socialize each one, taking all under her wing and even teaching frightened
ferals that adjusting to a safe home life is far better than being on the street. Happily (and sadly) we would see these animals
off to wonderful new homes. Tavi herself became a "special-needs" kitty when she developed cancer, but I was blessed with
over 15 years of life with Tavi and she inspired us all to continue rescuing and helping animals with special needs.

Tavi & Friends
is a non-profit organization established to help animals with special needs. We are professional
and volunteer allies dedicated to improving the lives of these special-needs animals through
public awareness,
training, holistic support, rescue and adoption.
Be part of the solution! We rely on public support to continue in our mission! Please
join us today in making a difference in the lives of these very 'special' animals.
How we help...

"TTouch in Rescue" Programs TRAINING and TTOUCH THERAPY PARTNERING
with other SHELTERS, RESCUE GROUPS, REHAB CENTERS, HOSPICES, and ANIMAL PROFESSIONALS... Through
our training program, TTouch in Rescue , TTouch and other gentle, holistic methods of training, rehabilitation
and wellness, are available to assist volunteers and staff at animal rehab centers, hospices, shelters, and rescue/TNR groups.
TTouch is a method of training and wellness that has proven health and behavior modification benefits. By working directly
with the animals, we show caretakers how to apply it in their environment, and continue working with them as long as
needed.
Through these methods, our goals are to help improve the condition of animals in shelters and rescue
environments; increase the adoptability of these animals, which may lower the euthanasia rate in shelters and reduce the number
of animals returned to shelters or forsaken on the streets due to behavioral and/or health issues.

We work directly with the animals in shelters and other rescue organizations to further help them find permanent, loving homes.
This can help reduce the number of animals killed in shelters simply because they have no place to go. If an animal can
be rehabilitated, that animal may know the love and comfort of their own home and family; and we want more homeless animals
to experience that joy.
Groups we work with include: Best Friends/Pets Alive Sanctuary; Angel's Gate Hospice & Rehabilitation Center for Animals;
A Home At Last; Animal Haven; Bobbi and the Strays; C.L.A.W.S.; Juste Pour Les Animaux; Liberty Humane Society; North Shore
Animal League; and others.

RESCUE, FOSTER CARE, ADOPTIONS... Our mission
also includes helping special-needs animal rescue and adoptions, in a foster-care environment. Volunteers in our foster care
network provide daily and veterinarian-administered care for the special needs animals they take into their homes. We try
to find a perfect forever home for each animal but, if we cannot, due to their special-needs, they have a loving home with
us forever!
We work with adoptive pet-parents and pets offering them gentle training methods to reduce behavioral
and/or wellness issues. Through lectures, workshops, private trainings, and other methods, we provide pet adopters with additional
teachniques to work through any issues with their pets, thereby reducing the number of pets that are often returned to shelters
as a final resort. ____________________________________________

HELPING ABANDONED and FERAL CATS... Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR)
is a feral cat management practice widely used in the animal welfare community. It helps to reduce the number of kittens born
through spay/neuter of the cats in the colony. Through volunteer efforts, we maintain several colonies around the NYC-area
and also maintain the health and well being of these cats. TNR is a more humane method to manage these colonies and the one
proven technique that actually works. Some of the cats in these colonies are strays that have been abandoned; when possible,
kittens and cats who can be socialized will be rescued and permanent, loving homes will be found. For those who are unable
to be socialized, they remain with their colony and we continue to provide daily care. ____________________________________________

The SANCTUARY and Training, Rehabiliation & Wellness CARE CENTER
for Special Needs Animals
A major part of
our goal is to raise funds for a sanctuary to house special-needs animals who, due to their uniqueness, may not be able
to be placed into permanent homes. A planned Training, Rehabilitation & Wellness Center will provide support to these
animals in partnership with the Tavi & Friends Sanctuary. The Center's services will also be available to pet owners'
who have animals with special-needs.
If you would like to help, your donation of funds is appreciated. Please
contact us for more information. ____________________________________________
Tavi & Friends is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to helping special-needs animals through training,
holistic health care, rescue, adoption and foster care. Permanent, loving homes are found for each animal whenever
possible; due to special-needs, some will not be adopted and have a home for life within our foster care network and,
when available, in our Sanctuary. *501c3 status is pending
____________________________________________
Special-needs designates animals with specialized needs and who may require specialized care, and/or who may have difficulty
finding a permanent adoptive home due to issues such as: inappropriate behaviors; age or wellness issues; orphaned; or are
physically or emotionally challenged. This "uniqueness" may make them at higher risk for euthanasia, homelessness,
and abuse. Our volunteers provide love, training, holistic support, socialization, and foster care as appropriate for each
special-needs animal. Feral cats also have "special needs"; colony caretakers provide for the daily needs of their
colonies, and rescue kittens or strays who may have been abandoned; for those cats who are able to be socialized, homes can
be found.
